Mirror, mirror part 2

So how was your Personal Leadership training? What did you learn? Was it valuable? Was it fun? It took me a week to properly answer these questions from friends. To actually do it justice. Finally, here’s the blog…

It took me a while to be able to put into words what I experienced during the training weekend. A lot of insights, moments of reflection and beautiful conversations. Quite the party and walks on the beach in between. Looking back, three topics stand out for me.

  • Language;
  • Being in the here & now;
  • Resilience.

Language

I am suddenly very aware of words I often use. Words that take away the power from my message. Like: actually, a little, maybe, might, perhaps. Also: taking away responsibility by using ‘you’ instead of ‘I’. I’m editing myself a lot currently…

Being in the here and now

One exercise was to describe the defining moments in your life. And then identify the patterns in there. Behaviorial patterns mostly. This exercise gave me the insight that I already cleared a lot of old beliefs, thoughts and patterns that don’t serve me any more. I’ve come a long way! Realizing that made me proud.

I also worry less about the future. What could go wrong. As a result, I’m less anxious and significantly more relaxed. I can go with the flow and be in the here and now more. That state of mind enables me to visualize big results!

Resilience

The word that stuck with me most of all. We (I) work on personal growth to deal with adversity in a better way. To become more resilient. When things don’t go as planned, to find the strength and courage to keep going. And, on a sunny day, to create positive pictures in the mind to grow even more (visualization!). But mostly: to enjoy fully where I am right now. That’s a great place.
