Workations might be the next big thing. I had never been on one before… Until now. An excellent opportunity to have a break before my second child will arrive. I must say: I had plans for this workation. But it didn’t turn out exactly as I planned. What did I learn?
In the past month, all teams from Blue Bricks went on a workation in the South of Portugal. Blue Bricks rented two villas where we could work on our personal development projects, team building & coaching, work for our clients and have fun.
Less is more
If this sounds like a lot… That’s right. It was. I worked three mornings on my assignment. I had beautiful conversations with fellow team members. I participated in a truly inspiring team session. I caught rays of sunlight on a catamaran. Danced under the full moon (pretty cool to have two djs in your team, right). But I didn’t do any yoga for instance (well done, miss yoga teacher).
I also figured out I needed this break more than I thought. So I took two naps without feeling guilty. Friday was a perfect lazy day next to the pool. And I needed this time to rest more than I needed to check off my to do list.
Plan to rest & restore
My biggest tip is: plan to rest and restore. We are busy enough in our daily life. When I take conscious breaks to rest and restore, reflection and inspiration come easily. And that was exactly what I needed during this workation. And I wish I had planned more of it.
Was this workation still a success for me? Absolutely! It was the first time we went here in our new team composition. This week really brought us together on several levels, in having fun but in enabling a deep personal connection too.
For my personal growth it was a very valuable week too. Honest conversations with my manager. Received magnificent feedback from my colleagues. Made some choices for my path this year (and beyond). In short, an incredible week I am very grateful for!
Did you ever go on a workation? What did it bring you?
